"Airline Attendants: The Fight to Check Unhealthy Meals: "While an H+H Editor traveled recently to Seattle, WA on United Airlines, he ordered a ham and cheese sandwich during his flight. After taking one bite, he checked the package it came in and read the ingredients and discovered that there was a whopping 2200 milligrams of sodium (salt). When the flight attendant made rounds to collect the garbage, the editor gave the sandwich back to her. She asked why he hadn't eaten his sandwich. The editor replied "…because there was 2200 milligrams of salt," which shocked the flight attendant. The flight attendant then told the other attendants the story and within 15 minutes she returned with a healthy sandwich, an apology, and a money refund for the ham and cheese sandwich.

As the story was relayed to a United Airlines Executive, he responded "it's nice to hear such a positive and supportive action from the flight attendant, and thank you for pointing out the health issue." This is a great example of how we can take small steps and work together to keep us all healthy. Here are some other tips for eating healthy when not at home. " - H + H Editor

  • Featured Topic - India/Cancer Study

"Cancer, often thought of as a disease of the rich West, is now the second leading cause of death in many low and middle-income countries, including India. By 2020, it is estimated that 70% of all cancer cases will be in these lower income countries - and approximately one fifth of these will be in India alone. Yet the vast majority of studies into cancer risks have been in Western populations, with very few in India. So it is not known whether the same factors have an effect in India. In an attempt to understand possible differences and India's unique cancer challenges, , the INDOX Cancer Research Network, a partnership between the University of Oxford and 12 of India's top comprehensive cancer centres, will conduct a large study, involving as many as 30,000 people in total at 12 centres across India." - H + H Editor
